About Ganakam

What Ganakam is

Ganakam is a free collection of personal-finance calculators built for India, covering income tax, take-home salary, SIP and other investments, loan EMIs, and deposits. The name comes from the Sanskrit gaṇaka, meaning "calculator" or "reckoner."

Why it exists

Most money questions in India come down to arithmetic that's easy to get wrong by hand - which tax regime leaves you better off, what your in-hand salary actually is, how much an SIP could grow, what an EMI really costs. Ganakam exists to do that arithmetic clearly, instantly, and for free, so you can see the numbers for yourself and make your own decisions.

How the calculators are built

Every calculation on Ganakam is mathematically verifiable and fully traceable to official regulations. We ground our engines in authoritative sources, including Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) circulars, statutory notifications, Union Budget provisions, and official scheme rules. Our calculation methodologies and assumptions are transparently documented on our prominent Ganakam Calculation Methodology page, allowing you to trace the exact rules and audit trails used.

We re-review and update our tax models and slabs every financial year immediately after the Union Budget is passed to ensure compliance with the latest regulations. All computations execute locally in your web browser—no personal financial data is ever transmitted to a server or stored.

Who is behind Ganakam

Ganakam is built and maintained by Sandesh Dhulekar, driven by a long-standing personal interest in Indian personal finance and a commitment to developer transparency and sourcing rigor. Our goal is to translate complex legal regulations into clean, open-source-grade code. Ganakam operates as an independent platform, not a financial advisory firm, and does not provide personalized tax or investment advice.

How Ganakam makes money

Ganakam is free to use. We earn through affiliate partnerships: when a tool is relevant, we may link to a product (such as a demat account or a credit card), and we may earn a commission if you choose to apply, at no extra cost to you. These links never change how a calculator works or what result it shows. Full details are on our disclosure page.
